Frequently Asked Questions

Through a partnership between the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) and the American Board of Wound Healing (ABWH) the ABWH will confer equal wound care certification(s) at no cost to currently certified AAWC Members. The ABWH is a preeminent certification body in the wound care category. This is a onetime offer available beginning April 1 through November 30, 2019. To take advantage of this savings opportunity, AAWC members must be current.

ABWH offers certifications in the following categories:
•    Physician Certification in Wound Care (PCWC) - 10 years
•    Certified Skin and Wound Specialist (CSWS) - 5 years
•    Certified Hyperbaric and Wound Specialist (CHWS) - 5 years
•    Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) - 5 years
•    Physician Certification in Hyperbaric Medicine (PCHM) - 10 years

ABWH offers its certification without a yearly maintenance fee, providing AAWC members with multi-year certifications a substantial savings. For a 5 or even 10-year certification, the potential savings to AAWC members can be substantial.

The process is as follows:

  • Identify the appropriate category of certification online at ABWH.NET/get-certified
  • Submit the required documentation to ABWH including:
    • A completed ABWH application for certification
    • Accompanying support documents specific for each certification
    • A copy of your current certification certificate(s), including the term of certification with expiration date(s)
    • Confirmation of AAWC membership, including expiration date (a valid AAWC membership ID card or copy of your membership certificate)

On completion of a satisfactory review by the ABWH Board, the comparable certification(s) will be issued. A printed certificate is available for a fee of $40.00. The AAWC will be notified of the certification and the expiration date and update the member profile accordingly. Successful applicants must maintain AAWC membership for the duration of the certification period. Recertification requirements as outlined with each exam category will apply.
