- The theme of the 2002 Olympics, held in Salt Lake City, was "Light the Fire Within." The Olympic Cauldron still stands as testament to that motto.
- For the sports fans - An obvious example of a team name being unrepresentative of its current home is Salt Lake City's NBA team, the Utah Jazz. The Utah Jazz began life as the New Orleans Jazz, and when owner Sam Battisone decided to move the team in 1979, he chose Salt Lake City.
- Located about 2.5 miles from the conference in Liberty Park is the Tracy Aviary. This bird sanctuary is the largest and oldest free-standing aviary in the country.
